-Definition Sphingolipids is a general term for all lipids containing (phyto)sphingosine as basic building block. They are the most abundant lipid present in the stratum corneum(ca. 40% of total lipids). Ceramides are N-acylated (phyto) sphingosine, without any sugar residues, and six different classes of ceramides have been identified in human skin. They are considered to play a major role in structuring and maintaining the(lipid) barrier function of skin and function as superior emollients. Ceramide PC 104* is a synthetic ceramide analog of 1,3-bis(N-2-(hydroxyethyl) palmitoylamino)-hydroxy propane, which is obtained from the coupling reaction of N,N’-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-hydroxy- 1,3-propanediamine and palmitoyl chloride. Add part A into part B at 70℃ and homogenize for 5 minutes. Cool down to 40℃ and part C is added under vigorous mechanical stirring. Cool down to room temperature.
